Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 11 Women's Soccer Blanks Stevens 2-0

Montclair, NJ – The No. 11 Montclair State University women's soccer team outlasted Stevens 2-0 on a rainy Sunday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (6-1-0) had the first shot on goal, as the goalkeeper stopped KIMBERLY CAMPBELL's sixth-minute shot. Campbell had an additional attempt denied in the 21st minute before MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN was stopped in the 24th and 25th minute.
  • The Ducks picked up the pace late in the half but were outshot 7-4 and did not have a shot on target over the first 45 minutes.
  • Montclair broke through for the game's first goal in the 60th minute. After being awarded a free kick, EMMI DENOVELLIS delivered a perfect service into the box where O'Callahan out-ran her defender and touched the ball past the goalkeeper.
  • Feeding off the momentum, the Red Hawks doubled the lead in the 63rd minute. KERRI DRISCOLL slid a long pass to Prendergast on the right flank. The sophomore fired a low try that eluded a diving keeper to make it 2-0.
  • The Ducks nearly notched their first of the game, but HALEY MARTIN snared a 67th-minute try. Three minutes later, an apparent Stevens goal was taken off the board due to an offside call. The Red Hawk defense clamped down and didn't surrender a shot over the final 24:47 to complete the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • O'Callahan led the Red Hawks with four shots.
  • Martin denied three Stevens shots to earn the clean sheet.
  • The Red Hawks snapped a three-game losing skid against Stevens, notching their first win since September 12, 2014.
FROM THE FIELD
"I'm really proud of our effort. Obviously, not great conditions to play a soccer game, and we played a really good opponent tonight in Stevens. I'm ecstatic that we did enough to score a couple of goals. I thought our defense played really well. We caught a couple of breaks along the way, and we take it, and that's a really hard-earned, well-deserved win. Rest, recover, and back to NJAC, which we're pumped about." – Head Coach Pat Naughter.
