Rowan Tops Volleyball In NJAC Action

Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team fell to Rowan University 3-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A NADYA ACKERMANIAN kill gave Montclair (8-9, 0-3 NJAC) an 8-6 lead in the opening frame, and the hosts regained the lead at 15-13 thanks to an ace. A ZOEY HORN kill followed by a rejection from Horn and Ackermanian evened set one at 15, but Rowan claimed the first frame with the final 10 points.
  • Rowan jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the second period before a service ace extended the margin to 8-4. The Red Hawks stormed back with five straight points, punctuated by a double block from Horn and RACHEL CURRAN.
  • The Profs grabbed a 19-15 edge, but a kill from SHELLEY EATON and an attack error trimmed the deficit in half. Montclair fought back and used three unforced errors to tie things at 23, but Rowan pulled through with the last two markers to claim the period.
  • The back-and-forth third stanza saw neither side take control before Horn extended the margin to 13-10 with a kill. Eaton and LILY THOMAS pounded kills to stretch the gap to five at 19-14, and an EMILY CARCICH kill brought up set point for Montclair. The Profs stopped the rally and used a game-clinching 4-0 run to end the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Eaton, Curran, Horn, and Thomas contributed six kills apiece.
  • Horn tallied six block assists, as Eaton added four.
  • EMMA HATCHER paced the defense with a team-high 17 digs.
FROM THE COURT
"I thought we came out strong in the first set and had moments when we looked good on defense, serve receive, and offense. Unfortunately, our passing dipped down in crucial times, which allowed the Rowan defense to force us into mistakes. I'm proud of the way we battled." – Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
