Men's Soccer Breezes Past Hunter, 8-0

Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State men's soccer team topped Hunter 8-0 Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (2-0) wasted little time and scored on their first chance of the game. OWEN MURPHY received the ball in the middle of the field and fed AMER LUKOVIC. Lukovic broke in and fired a shot past a diving keeper, putting Montclair up 1-0 2:09 in.
  • Lukovic recorded his second goal of the match 3:24 later. ANDRE SHELTON dribbled into the box but had the ball poked away. It ended up on the foot of Lukovic and the Clifton, NJ native. He completed the hat trick in the eighth minute as he headed home a Shelton cross.
  • The Hawks registered their first shot in the 28th minute, but goalkeeper BORIS DEL VALLE denied the attempt.
  • Montclair added to their advantage early in the second. After being awarded an in-direct free kick in the box, Shelton tapped the free-kick to Murphy, who fired a shot that was banked in off a Hunter defender and in.
  • After recording two assists, Shelton was rewarded with a goal in the 57th minute. CHRIS FONTANAZZA added a marker in the 59th minute, and 37 seconds later, JACK BLUMBERG converted a penalty kick to make it 7-0.
  • In the 63rd minute, DILLON FERBER notched his first collegiate marker, converting a pass from ANTHONY RIZZI.
