Football Routs TCNJ 42-7 On Homecoming

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University football team routed The College of New Jersey 42-7 on Homecoming Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (2-2, 1-0 NJAC) received the opening kickoff and went 65 yards in five plays for the opening touchdown. ANDREW SANBORN hit ZACH LEWIS for three completions before ANTHONY ROIGE hauled in a 48-yard touchdown. Roige made several defenders miss before inching across the goal line.
  • TCNJ marched down the field on the ensuing possession, but a SHERROD COOPER breakup brought up fourth down. The Lions went for a 28-yard field goal, but KEYSHAWN DIXON came off the edge and blocked the kick. JAYDEN BRIMAGE scooped up the loose ball and went 84 yards for the score.
  • The Red Hawks defense stood tall again as NICHOLAS BURGESS intercepted Trevor Bopp's pass at the 48-yard line and raced 52 yards for the pick-six. Montclair's defense buckled down, forcing a pair of turnover on downs in the first half.
  • Bopp was picked off by Cooper midway through the second period, and the senior raced 46 yards down to the Lions' seven-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Sanborn linked up with Roige for the second time, this time for a seven-yard strike.
  • Montclair capped off a 35-point first half with an 8-play, 55-yard drive. Sanborn passed for 25 yards to CLARENCE WILKINS and polished the run off with a four-yard pass to Wilkins.
  • The Lions broke through for the contest's first points in the third quarter, scoring on a two-yard run. The Red Hawks finished off the scoring early in the fourth. HENRY LEWIS picked up 55 yards on two carries, and Sanborn delivered a 26-yard score to KEYSHAWN MCCURDY.
