Second Half Surge Sends No. 10 Women's Soccer Past Ramapo

Montclair, NJ - Sophomore JULIE BAKER netted her first three collegiate goals as the No. 10 Montclair State University tallied four second-half goals in a 5-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Ramapo Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks needed 5:57 to get on the board, as sophomore JULIE BAKER bent in a cross from the right side that glanced off a Roadrunner defender and into the back of the net.
  • Montclair continued to pepper the Roadrunner backline, taking 13 additional shots in the period, but could not find a second marker. The Red Hawks looked to add a goal on set pieces, but KERRI DRISCOLL's header and KIMBERLY CAMPBELL's try off MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN's services did not go.
  • Goalkeeper HALEY MARTIN was not tested in the first half, as the Red Hawk defense clamped down and held Ramapo shotless over the first 45 minutes.
  • Montclair looked to add to their margin eight minutes into the second period, but KYLIE PRENDERGAST's try on a breakaway. Baker doubled the Red Hawks' margin in the 49th minute before completing the hat trick with a shot from the center of the box off a Prendergast assist in the 55th minute.
  • GIANNA CURCI got on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute, and a yellow card on Ramapo for a foul in the box gave Montclair a penalty kick. Senior OLIVIA KEDZIORA stepped up to the spot and converted the PK with 3:05 left, cementing the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Baker's hat trick was the first hat trick for the Red Hawks this season.
  • Montclair held a commanding 25-1 edge in shots, including 15-1 on target.
  • Kedziora's goal was the first of her four-year career. She earned an assist in her first collegiate game in the spring of 2021.
FROM THE FIELD
" I'm really happy that we were able to get back on the winning track especially because it's homecoming and  senior day. It was great that our seniors were able to perform so well. I think each of them had a very good day. Very excited that TARA LAMBERT was able to get back on the field and OLIVIA KEDZIORA, and great way to cap it with Kedz (OLIVIA KEDZIORA) scoring. So three points in the NJAC  is always the goal, and we got it and we're happy to move on from it." Head Coach Pat Naughter.
