Women's Basketball Falls to Rowan

Glassboro, NJ The Montclair State women's basketball team fell to Rowan 60-36 Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (6-9, 3-5 NJAC) jumped out to an early lead on a three-point shot from KENDALL HODGES. After both teams were held without a point for three minutes, Montclair scored the next 11 points on five points from MEGAN CAVOLI and three-point shots from SHANNON HUGHES and ISABELLA ORLANDO.
  • After Rowan converted a free throw, Hodges scored on a driving layup with 32 seconds remaining to make the score 16-3 after 10 minutes of play.
  • The Profs opened the second quarter on a 8-0 run over the opening 2:38. The Red Hawks received two more layups from Hodges, but Rowan closed the first half with nine straight points to go into the half up 22-20.
  • Rowan began the second half with 11-straight points, and Montclair responded with back-to-back buckets from Hodges and OLIVIA VERO. The Profs went on a 9-1 scoring run over the remaining four minutes of the third quarter.
  • Montclair cut the deficit down to 15 with 3:31 remaining in the game on a jump shot from TIFFANY SOSA, but Rowan ended the contest on a 12-3 scoring run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hodges led Montclair with 11 points, marking the second time in three games she has reached double-figures.
  • The three points allowed in the first quarter were the fewest in a quarter allowed by the Red Hawks defense this season, four fewer than the previous low of seven which was set against Stockton on January 6.
UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will return home to host Kean University on Saturday, January 13. Tip-off at the Panzer Athletic Center is scheduled for 3 pm.
