Women's Basketball Edged By NJCU

Jersey City, NJ - The Montclair State Women's Basketball Team fell short 71-56, to the Gothic Knights of NJCU Wednesday night.

How it Happened 
  • The Red Hawks held their own against the Gothic Knights throughout the first quarter only trailing by one at the conclusion of the first ten minutes.
  • The Gothic Knight's seven point run to start the second was put to a stop thanks to a layup from BRIANNA MONTAJES three minutes into the quarter.
  • Montclair's attempt to regain the lead was halted as a three from Demarius Rodriguez put an end to the Red Hawks' six point run going into the half.
  • Montclair came out of the half hot, scoring the first seven points of the half lessening their deficit to only one. 
  • The Gothic Knights turned up the defense in response, forcing five turnovers in a two minute span. 
  • The Red Hawks had no response until TERESA WOLAK put an end to the Gothic Knights' 17 point run with a layup eight minutes into the third quarter. 
  • ISABELLA ORLANDO rallied for the Red Hawks scoring the first eight points for the team to start the quarter. Montclair could not make up the lead ending the fourth quarter shooting 25% from the floor.
Inside the Box Score 
  • Orlando led the Red Hawks with 13 points shooting fifty percent from behind the three point arc, while ALEXIS STROLLO, Montajes, and SHANNON HUGHES all ended the night with eight points.
  • The Gothic Knights out rebounded the Red Hawks by 22 boards with NJCU's Sarah Edmond leading both teams in rebounding with 16.
