Women's Basketball Downs Rutgers-Camden 69-44

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University women's basketball team placed four in double figures en route to a 69-44 triumph over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (7-11, 4-7 NJAC) never trailed and jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage. ISABELLA ORLANDO tallied eight points during the spurt. Rutgers-Camden closed to within five on a three-pointer with 1:24 remaining in the opening period as Montclair led 19-14 after one.
  • The Scarlet Raptors cut the gap to one early in the second before Montclair reeled off five consecutive markers. A free throw from SHANNON HUGHES capped the rally. A free throw from TERESA WOLAK late in the frame gave Montclair a 36-27 halftime lead.
  • The Red Hawks stormed out of the gates in the third period, outscoring Rutgers-Camden 27-5. The two sides traded baskets opening the quarter and embarked on a 17-0 run to break the game open. Montclair limited the guests to just two made field goals during the 10-minute stretch, extending the lead to 31 entering the fourth.
  • The fourth quarter was more of the same, as the Red Hawks held Rutgers-Camden without a field goal over the final 5:42 of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • BRIANNA MONTAJES led the Red Hawks with 12 points as Orlando, Hughes, and OLIVIA VERO chipped in 11.
  • Vero picked up a team-high eight rebounds, with Wolak adding seven.
  • Montclair shot a blistering 55.56% (10-of-18) from the floor in the third quarter to help control the contest.
