Men's Basketball Topples William Paterson in NJAC Road Matchup

North Haledon, NJ – The Montclair State University men's basketball team led wire-to-wire en route to a 90-75 victory over William Paterson University on Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks doubled up the Pioneers early, putting up 10 of the first 15 markers over the first five minutes. MIKE JACKSON was the catalyst, notching eight of the first 10 points for the Montclair.
  • The Pioneers closed to within one before a Red Hawk 11-2 spurt extended the margin back to double digits. SAMAR ABDULLAH drained a corner triple during the run, with FRANCISCO PAULINO capping the rally off with a layup.
  • Montclair held William Paterson scoreless for over two minutes late in the frame and grabbed a seven-point lead entering halftime. The Red Hawks shot 47.2% (17-of-36) while holding the Pioneers to a 35.3% clip.
  • After the Pioneers closed to within five at 47-42, the Red Hawks used an 18-6 run over three minutes to take control of the contest. During the rally, the Red Hawks reeled off seven straight points, including a triple from KYREE HENRY to get it started.
  • A three-pointer from KIERAN FLANAGAN stretched the margin to 19 with just over four minutes left before KEYON PRYCE knocked down a jumper in the paint to push the score over 20. The Pioneers could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way as Montclair cemented the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jackson led the Red Hawks with 22 points, the 11th time he has gone over 20 this season. The junior climbed up two more spots on the career scoring list and sits in 16th place with 1,093 points.
  • After scoring a career-best 21 points in the last game, Flanagan tallied 17 on 7-of-12 shooting. The senior added five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
  • Henry chipped in 18 points off the bench, knocking down four three-pointers.
  • Paulino narrowly missed a double-double, scoring 13 points with a team-best eight boards.
