Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team fell in overtime to Stockton, 51-42, Saturday afternoon at the Panzer Athletic Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks (6-7, 3-3 NJAC) battled the Ospreys in a low-scoring first quarter that featured five lead changes. After Montclair took the lead with 1:31 left in the frame on a free throw from GENEVIEVE FARA, Stockton connected on a jumper to make the score 8-7 after 10 minutes.
- Montclair scored the first eight points of the second frame over the opening two minutes, a run that included a three-point shot from ISABELLA ORLANDO. The home side opened up its largest lead of the contest after a layup from ALEXIS STROLLO and free throws from OLIVIA VERO with five minutes remaining in the half.
- After trailing by 10 with 3:26 on the clock, the Ospreys closed the gap to four going into the break with the score 24-20.
- Stockton opened the third quarter on a 7-0 scoring run to reclaim the lead at the six minute mark. MEGAN CAVOLI knocked down a three to tie the game at 29, and Orlando converted a free throw to give Montclair the lead back. The visitors scored the final four points of the quarter.
- The Ospreys led until the 3:38 mark of the game, as Orlando connected on another three to level the score at 38. Stockton scored on the following possession, and two free throws from KENDALL HODGES tied the game at 40, which would be the score at the end of regulation.
- Hodges tallied two free throws a minute into overtime, but Stockton scored the final 11 points of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Cavoli led the Red Hawks with 13 points, including three three-point shots.
- Orlando finished with 11 points, marking the ninth time she has scored in double-figures this season.
