#10 Men's Soccer Surges Past Rutgers-Newark, 4-1, for Tenth-Straight Victory

Newark, NJ The #10 Montclair State University men's soccer team surged past Rutgers-Newark, 4-1, to secure its tenth-straight victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (10-2-1, 4-0-0 NJAC) sent in two shots on goal early on, as SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI and SAMUEL EPITIME saw their attempts be saved at the top of the net by Rutgers-Newark. In the 25th minute, SALEM ELLISY gathered the ball and attempted to slot it low, but the keeper came off his line to smother the shot.
  • In the later stages of the opening half, Montclair jumped ahead with two goals. In the 40th minute, Lapczynski found CHRIS FONTANAZZA on a cutback pass, who ripped a shot to break the scoring open. Three minutes later, JAKE WINCHOCK surged into the box and ripped a shot above the keeper to double the advantage going into the break.
  • Five minutes into the second stanza, the Red Hawks added a third on a close-range finish from Ellisy off a feed from Epitime. Following a turnover at midfield, REED KARSEN found LOGAN NENO for Montclair's fourth goal of the night on a finish towards the bottom-left corner of the net.
  • The Scarlet Raiders made a push late, as ALEXANDER VELASQUEZ had to come up with back-to-back saves in the 74th minute to maintain the margin. Rutgers-Newark got on the scoreboard in the 83rd minute, but could not cut into the deficit any more as the Red Hawks sealed the victory.
