Field Hockey Stymies Ramapo, 1-0

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team (8-3, 2-0 NJAC) went on the road and stymied Ramapo (3-10, 0-2 NJAC), 1-0 on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks jumped right out to a 1-0 lead in the first period. At the 7:02 timestamp, GAB MAISTO took a penalty corner opportunity and capitalized when she found KYLIE COMPTON, who fired a shot into the back of the cage for the go-ahead goal. Montclair was on the offensive the entire period as they allowed no shots to Ramapo in the first period.
  • Montclair's defense continued to be stingy, but could not create a multiple-goal lead. They amassed 10 shots in the second quarter with eight shots on goal, but all eight were saved by the Roadrunners. The best opportunity came in the 28th minute when Compton tried to slap in her second goal of the game, but Allison Tanasy came up with the defensive save to keep the score at 1-0 going into the second half.
  • The Red Hawk offense continued to create shots with SAMI BLOOM and SADIE EICHLIN both registering a pair of shots within the first eight minutes of the period, but Roadrunner goalie Michelle Kukan continued to stand her ground saved all four shots. Kukan remained a brick wall in the cage and kept the score at 1-0 despite facing another 10 shots with nine shots on goal.
  • The Fourth period remained the same as the rest, but it played in the Red Hawks favor as they earned the clean sheet victory allowing no shots throughout the contest and they took the 1-0 win.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair remains undefeated in NJAC play this season, moving to 3-0 on the season.
  • Compton scored her fourth goal of the season and her third game winner, which leads the team this season.
  • Maisto notched her fifth assist in tonight's game. She now has an assist in each of her last three games and currently leads the team in points with 13.
  • The Red Hawks defense has been as stout as they come in NJAC play, limiting their opponents to just seven shots and one penalty corner over the last three games.

From the Field
  • "Good to get our third NJAC win and another shutout today. I thought we played hard, but did not execute our game plan with enough consistency and discipline to get more goals in the cage." Head Coach Eileen O'Reily
