Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Downs Rowan, 3-0

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team (13-6, 4-1 NJAC) earned a big NJAC win in the Panzer Athletic Center when they downed Rowan (11-9, 2-2 NJAC), 3-0 on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set started off as a back-and-forth matchup with four lead changes and eight tied scores up to a Rowan 9-8 advantage. The tide of the set turned when the Red Hawks went on a 5-1 run that was set up from two kills by SARAH CAPONE, a kill from CAMRYN MUUSS and a service ace by KATIE RODMAN that moved the game to 15-11 lead. After a Profs point, The Red Hawks generated a 6-1 run this time that included two kills from BRYN BAUTISTA, a kill and a service ace from Muuss and a kill from EMMA HATCHER. Rowan was not able to climb back, matching Montclair's four points down the stretch and the Red Hawks took set one, 25-17.
  • It was Rowan who controlled the early portion of the set, jumping out to leads of 5-2, 8-5 and 12-6. Montclair battled back with a 5-1 run that cut the lead to 13-11. That run included two kills from Capone and a service ace from Rodman. After Rowan collected a pair of points, Montclair scored six unanswered points to shift the set in their favor, 17-15. SOPHIA LOPEZ knocked down a duo of kills and Rodman notched another service ace during that shift. Both teams battled towards the final portion of the set and faced with a 24-23 scored, Capone hammered down the final kill to give the Red Hawks a 25-23 set two win and a 2-0 set advantage going into the third.
  • Montclair jumped out to a 3-1 lead on two kills from Capone and one from Muuss, but Rowan flipped the set in their favor with five unanswered points to take a 6-3 edge. Both teams took two points apiece before the Red Hawks blew the set wide open on a massive 10-1 run that gave them a 16-9 advantage. That run was sparked by three service aces from GABBY KONRAD, a kill from Bautista and a kill from Muuss. A 5-1 run for the Profs cut the lead to 17-14, but the Red Hawks held them off down the stretch and a eventually notched a 25-20 set three win and secured the clean sweep.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bautista notched a career-high 15 kills on the night. She out did her best mark of 13 that she collected on September 11 of this year against Arcadia.
  • The Red Hawks saw five different student-athletes collect double-digit digs on the night with Bautista leading the way in that category too with 16 digs on the night.
  • This was the first time the Red Hawks earned a straight-set win against Rowan since 2014
