Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Prendergast’s Game-Winner Lifts Women’s Soccer Past Kean, 1-0

Montclair, NJ. – Junior forward KYLIE PRENDERGAST put in the game-winner and the lone goal of the contest to help lift the Montclair State women's soccer team (3-3-5, 1-0-1 NJAC) past Kean (5-5-0, 0-2-0 NJAC), 1-0 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was the Red Hawks on the early attack and a barrage of shots right in front of the goal eventually found its way to the back of the net. Prendergast fired a shot left-inside of the penalty box that was saved and was followed by a shot on the opposite side of the box by AILEEN CAHILL, that was also saved, but a scrum for the ball after the save, was collected by Prendergast again and this time she worked the ball around the goalkeeper and into the lower left corner of the net to give Montclair an early 1-0 lead.
  • Kean went on the attack in the middle portion of the first half, registering four between the 16th and 22nd minutes of the game with SALANGE BELL making two saves. The Red Hawks had a few opportunities late but the closest they got was a shot from MACKENZIE MORANO that landed into the arms of Kean goalkeeper Abigail Wing and the score remained the same heading into the second half.
  • Montclair was on the attack early again in the second half, collecting three shots within the first five minutes, but none of them landed on goal despite two corner kick opportunities within that span.
  • After the Red Hawks controlled the middle portion of the second half, the final push came from the Cougars who were at least searching for the equalizer. The team saw three shots in the last 18 minutes of the game with two of them being saved by Bell. Kean never found the game-tying goal and Montclair held on for their first NJAC win of the season.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Bell earned her third straight shutout and made four saves in the process.
  • Prendergast notched her second goal of the season and her first game-winner in 2024.
  • The Red Hawks extended their win streak to six and their unbeaten streak to 18 matches against the Cougars.
