Montclair, NJ. – The Montclair State University women's soccer team (4-4-5) had a get right game after suffering a loss last Saturday when they hosted and downed Arcadia (4-8-0), 4-0 on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks garnered almost all of the offensive opportunities the first half, outshooting the Knights 11-1 in the first half. EMMI DENOVELLIS took first crack at the Arcadia goal, but missed just wide. After Arcadia went on the offensive and missed a shot wide, Montclair went right back on the offensive and put together a scoring play. JULIE BAKER played a ball right into the box for KYLIE PRENDERGAST to have a chance at the goalkeeper. The ball was saved but was collected by MACKENZIE ALBERT, who tapped it in for a 1-0 lead at the 17:25 mark.
- Montclair had a few chances down the stretch, but was not able to find the back of the net. The best opportunity they had came from GIANNA CURCI who played a deep pass and dribbled around three Knights defenders, but could not find a clean angle and missed wide right. The game eventual went to halftime with the Red Hawks still holding a 1-0 lead.
- Montclair opened the floodgates offensively in the second half. In the 57th minute, DeNovellis collected a ball, dribbled through the defense and fired in a shot top center for the second goal of the contest and her second of the season. Almost 20 minutes later, at the 71:06 timestamp, Albert placed a perfect pass to NICOLE RICCI right in front of the net and she capitalized for her first goal of the season and gave the Red Hawks a commanding 3-0 edge.
- A big second half for the Red Hawks was capped off in 81st minute when MADELINE LESICA generated a fast break opportunity and found NIKI DANZ who dribbled around a few defenders and shot in the fourth and final goal of the night for Montclair. The game concluded at a scored of 4-0 Red Hawks.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
- MADDIE SCHILL got the start and the win tonight in goal while collecting two saves
- Montclair dominated the game with 29 shots and holding Arcadia to only four, tied for the second lowest shot total allowed on the season.
- Albert notched her fourth goal of the season, which is tied for the team high with AILEEN CAHILL. She also earned her second game-winning goal of the year which leads the team.
