Gettysburg, Pa. - The Montclair State Women's Swimming & Diving junior
ROURKE PERALTA broke the 100 free record to highlight the Red Hawk's final day at the Gettysburg invite on Saturday. They finished second out of the six teams that competed and compiled a team score of 780.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Peralta's record broke the previous record held by Madison Franke back at the 2019 Metropolitan Championships of 52.17 when she swam a 51.54 that notched her second first place finish of the weekend. Her swim also puts her in the top 25 in the nation in the event.
- Montclair also saw impressive days from ABBY BROCK and MARIANNE TASSINARI. Brock placed second in the 100 breast with a season-best time of 1:04.70 and third in the 200 breast when she clocked a season-best 2:27.62. Tassinari finished just before Brock in the 200 breast when she touched the wall second in 2:26.02, which was a season-best. She also placed third in the 400 IM with a season-best time of 4:38.52. Tassinari was followed directly by ABBY PANZARELLA and KACIE GADZINSKI, who each timed season-best marks of 4:46.76 and 4:48.40, respectively.
- SOPHIA SHOPOVICK also earned a second-place finish on the final day. She finished second in the 100 back with a season-best time of 59.57.
- Just like the individual performances, the relays were just as impressive for Montclair. The 400 relay team of Peralta, JULIA WEINREB, JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO, and JULIE TIEDEMANN placed first among the field with a time of 3:38.49. The Red Hawks also notched two second-place relay finishes from their "A" relay teams. The 200 medley relay team consisting of Shopovick, Brock, MADELINE ROGERS, and Peralta placed second with a time of 1:46.10 while the quartet of Tassanari, Catherine Geyer, Skopp-Cardillo, and Tiedemann notched second in the 800 free relay with a 7:59.33 in their first relay in the 800 free this season
