Men's Basketball Outlasted by Kean

Union, NJ The Montclair State men's basketball team was outlasted by Kean 84-73 on Saturday afternoon in a contest that featured 18 lead changes and four ties.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (16-8, 11-6 NJAC) fell behind early as the Cougars scored the first eight points of the contest. Montclair responded with a 17-8 extended run over six and a half minutes to take their first lead of the contest at 17-16 on two free throws from MIKE JACKSON.
  • Kean reopened a six-point advantage with 3:11 remaining on the clock in the first half. The visitors countered with 12 of the next 17 points to claim a slim 31-30 lead, a run capped off by a three-point shot from AHMAD ROBERTSON. The Cougars tallied the final two points of the half to go into the break up one.
  • The two sides were within one point of each other for the opening four minutes of the second half before SAMAR ABDULLAH scored on a driving layup to give Montclair a 38-35 lead. Neither side could build a multi-possession lead until the 8:42 mark when Kean went up by four.
  • Down five with three minutes remaining, KYREE HENRY connected on a three-point shot to bring the Red Hawks within one possession. After Kean converted a free throw, KEYON PRYCE scored on a layup to bring Montclair within one with 96 seconds remaining.
  • The Cougars outscored the Red Hawks 13-3 over the final minute and a half of the contest to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Henry led Montclair with 16 points on 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc. The guard has tallied double-figure scoring totals in each of the team's last four games.
  • Pryce finished with 14 points, and Jackson was the final Red Hawk in double figures with 12.
  • Montclair forced 22 Kean turnovers, and received 33 points from its bench in the contest.
