College Park, Maryland – The Montclair State University women's swimming & diving team set the school records in the 200-medley and 800-freestyle relays after the first day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The foursome of SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, ABBY BROCK, MADELINE ROGERS, and ROURKE PERALTA established a new school standard as they turned in a second-place mark of 1:46.14. They missed winning the event by 1.39 seconds, breaking the original mark of 1:47.65 that Emily Rothamel, Claire Luigard, Margaux Winchock, and Madison Franke set in 2019.
- Montclair took first in the 800-freestyle relay, with MARIANNE TASSINARI, JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO, CATTY GEYER, and JULIE TIEDEMANN clocking in at 7:48.92. They clipped Kean University by a mere .19 seconds. They surpassed the original record of 7:54.5, which was set during the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in 1987 by Joan Franz, Cindy Strodel, Tabitha Jacobs, and Gail Meneghin.
- AUDREY HITCHENS qualified for the finals of the 3-meter dive and placed fifth overall. The sophomore registered 216.95 points during her dives.

"This was one of the best first days in the history of Montclair Swimming. Those women deserved those swims and records. They are going to be surrounded with some very good opponents in every single race until we wrap this up Sunday night.
