Tiedemann Takes First In 200-Free as Records Fall During NJAC Championships

College Park, Md. – JULIE TIEDEMANN won the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in 200 freestyle as several school records fell during the third day of the NJAC Championships on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tiedemann led five Red Hawks with her first-place time in the 200-freestyle. The junior clocked in at 1:56.47, .01 quicker than second-place. ROURKE PERALTA, who also qualified for the "A" finals, registered a fourth-place time of 1:57.13. JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO was 13th in 1:58.69 as CATTY GEYER (1:59.78) and KACIE GADZINSKI (2:01.35) also made the finals.
  • MARIANNE TASSINARI broke the school record in the 400-IM twice en route to a third-place finish. She turned in a time of 4:40.82 during the preliminary round before clocking in at 4:36.25 in the finals. Both marks surpassed Claire Luigard's previous record of 4:42.45.
  • MADELINE ROGERS set the school standard in the 100-butterfly, taking seventh in 57.76. She clipped Margaux Winchock's record by a mere .01 seconds. SYDNEY MCGANN also made the finals of the 100-fly, placing 22nd in 1:02.05.
  • ABBY BROCK capped off the record-setting day with a third-place time of 1:04.7 in the 100-breaststroke. The junior took down Laura Spadoni's mark of 1:05.25, set during the Metropolitan Championships in 2009.
  • The Red Hawks began the day with a third-place mark in the 200-freestyle relay. The foursome of Peralta, Rogers, MADDY WISHNOW, and Skopp-Cardillo clocked in at 1:38.59.
  • LILI SHAY took 12th in the 100-breaststroke (1:07.62), and SADIE CRISPELL was 20th (1:09.29). JULIA WEINREB qualified for the "A" finals in the 100-back and took seventh in 59.58. SOPHIA SHOPOVICK won the "B" flight by touching the wall in 59.68. In the same event, ABBY PANZARELLA capped off the day with a 14th-place time of 1:01.16.
  • OLIVIA SALMONS and AUDREY HITCHENS advanced to the finals of the 1-meter diving. Hitchens finished third with 306.10 points, and Salmons was sixth with 239.95 points.

The Red Hawks wrap up the NJAC Championships tomorrow, with the preliminary round starting at 9:30 am and the finals beginning at 5:30 pm.
