Second Half Rally Sends Men's Basketball Past Ramapo, 90-63

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's basketball team outscored Ramapo College 55-28 in the second half en route to a 90-63 triumph inside the Panzer Athletic Center on Wednesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The back-and-forth first period saw neither side grab a stronghold on the game before five consecutive points from Montclair stretched the lead to five at 17-12. The Roadrunners got back in the game with four straight makers, getting to within one.
  • Consecutive layups from FRANCISCO PAULINO and AMIR WILLIAMS re-established the five-point margin, but Ramapo fought back to tie things at 29. The two teams entered the half deadlocked at 35, yet Ramapo shot 64% (16-of-25) in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Ramapo inched in front 39-37 early in the second before SAMAR ABDULLAH connected on a three-pointer to push Montclair in front. Five consecutive points from KUNGA TSERING and a triple from KIERAN FLANAGAN gave the hosts an eight-point advantage.
  • A 12-4 spur from Montclair pushed the second to double-digits midway through the stanza as AHMAD ROBERTSON hit from deep. Ramapo closed to 12 before nine straight points off shots from deep stretched the margin to over 20.
  • The lead hovered around 20 for most of the second period as the Red Hawks held Ramapo without a field goal for the final 3:11. The Red Hawks finished the contest with the final eight tallies, including threes from Jackson and HENRY MEYERS.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jackson led the Red Hawks with 21 points, the 12th time he has gone over 20 points this season. The junior added four assists in the victory.
  • Tsering stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals, and a block.
  • Paulino and KYREE HENRY chipped in the 12 points, as Flanagan grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
  • After shooting 41.67% in the first half, the Red Hawks shot a blistering 63.3% (19-of-30) in the second half, including 9-of-15 from three.
