Men's Lacrosse Knocked Off By DeSales

Center Valley, Pa. – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-7 decision to DeSales University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair fell behind early as DeSales put two goals in during the opening 1:55 of the contest. JOHN CRANK halted the run with a marker from JACK CLEARY before the hosts tacked on three more to make it 5-1.
  • RYAN VIERBUCHEN netted an unassisted marker with 3:40 left in the first before DAREN MAYER trimmed the deficit to two with a rebound off a shot that rang off the post. Mayer scooped the loose ball and fired for the goal.
  • DeSales scored the last two goals in the first, and Vierbuchen opened the second with a tally 2:21 in. Montclair looked to get closer, but AIDAN MAXWELL hit the post. The two sides continued to trade goals, and Vierbuchen made it 8-5 with a man-up marker from Cleary.
  • The Bulldogs ended the opening half with a flurry, outscoring Montclair 4-0 over the last 8:14. They outshot Montclair 28-19 over the first 30 minutes and won 14 of 19 faceoffs.
  • DeSales continued to score in the third quarter, scoring five goals on 15 shots. Montclair attempted 11 shots but could not put one behind the Bulldogs goalkeeper. The Bulldogs bridged the three quarters with 12 consecutive goals to break the game open. Crank scored a pair of goals late to help establish the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE FROM THE FIELD
"Unfortunately we got beat in all aspects of the game. We didn't defend well enough, our offense was out of sync and we didn't do well in the goal, or facing off.  Credit to Desales, They played really well but I don't think we played that well at all today." - Head Coach Matt Poskay.
