Stockton Clips Men's Lacrosse In CLC Action

Galloway, NJ – JACK CLEARY and RYAN VIERBUCHEN tallied three goals each, but the Montclair State University men's lacrosse team was topped by Stockton 15-11 in Coastal Lacrosse Conference action on Saturday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Ospreys opened the scoring before Cleary netted his first marker of the game off a Vierbuchen assist to make it 1-1 with just over five gone in the first quarter. Stockton opened up a three-goal lead entering the second, tallying three consecutive goals in the final 5:04.
  • Montclair peppered Stockton with shots early in the second but could not find the back of the net. Playing on the man-down, Vierbuchen cut the deficit to two off a feed from ETHAN MOUNIER.
  • Stockton registered the final three goals of the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead into halftime. The Ospreys outshot Montclair 20-15 in the first half, while Montclair was a perfect 6-for-6 on clears in the second period.
  • Vierbuchen opened the third stanza, scoring 1:23 into the frame before Cleary scored unassisted to make it 8-4. Mounier and JOHN CRANK netted goals to dig into the lead, but Stockton re-built the five-goal cushion with the last two goals and led 11-6 going into the fourth.
  • The Ospreys scored twice early in the fourth before Cleary stopped the run. Stockton netted two goals in 27 seconds to go up 15-7 before the Red Hawks started a comeback.
  • Vierbuchen polished off his hat trick to start the spurt, as CORBIN QUINTERO, Mounier, and Cody Copper recorded markers. Montclair could not get any closer and Stockton came away with the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Vierbuchen added an assist to go with his three goals while firing a team-high 13 shots.
  • Quintero tallied his first collegiate goal as JEFF FELTER picked up an asssit.
  • LUCAS NOVACK went 11-for-25 in the "X" and picked up a team-high five ground balls.
  • BRANDON SHEVINS tallied 11 saves in the setback.

"Unfortunately we didn't play a complete game tonight. I thought we did some nice things but weren't able to get going offensively until after the break and at this time of the season you need to play complete games to be victorious." Head Coach Matt Poskay. 

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks close out their home slate on Wednesday as they host Kean University at 7 pm at Sprague Field.
