Men's Lacrosse Clipped by Kean

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team fell to Kean University 16-12 on Wednesday night to conclude their 2024 home slate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-8, 0-4 CLC) traded goals with the Cougars throughout the first quarter. WILL GINCH opened the account for Montclair to equalize three and a half minutes in, and shortly after Kean regained the lead, RYAN VIERBUCHEN scored following a turnover from the Cougars.
  • Kean scored off the resulting faceoff, but CODY COOPER leveled the game at three following another Cougars turnover. The two sides traded markers one final time in the quarter, with Vierbuchen netting his second to even the score at four.
  • The visitors struck for the first two of the second quarter, but Montclair answered with two of the next three, as JACK CLEARY and Vierbuchen each found the back of the net to cut the deficit to one. Kean put two shots on goal before finding their final marker of the half, but CARTER FINNEN struck off a feed from ETHAN MOUNIER to make the halftime score 8-7.
  • Kean opened the third stanza with three out of four goals to expand their lead to three six minutes in. The Red Hawks answered with two out of three, including a man-up strike from BRANDON LEWANDOWSKI. The Cougars closed the third with two goals to put the margin at four.
  • Montclair scored the first two goals of the final stanza to cut the game to two with 12:31 remaining, but Kean used two markers during the middle of the period to seal the road victory and hold off a late Red Hawks rally.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Vierbuchen recorded his 100th career point in the contest, finishing with a game-high five goals to go along with an assist.
  • The sophomore became the first Red Hawk to eclipse 100 points since MATT DANCSECS on April 19, 2023 against Stockton.
  • Cooper recorded his second career multi-goal game, and PATRICK BOURKE tallied his first career assist.
  • BRANDON SHEVINS collected 15 saves in net for the Red Hawks.
