Softball Bested By TCNJ

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University softball team was topped by The College of New Jersey in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Montclair (12-16, 2-8 NJAC) fell 4-2 and 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions jumped on the board early, scoring once in the first and second while putting four in the third to take a 4-0 lead. MOLLY COLLIGAN led off the third with a double for Montclair but was stranded at third after the next three batters were sent back.
  • Montclair broke through in the fourth to dig into the lead. STEPHANIE SERETIS walked with two outs before FAITH COLLIER drove a ball to deep right field. Collier went into second with a stand-up double as Seretis scored.
  • LIZ MULLEN reached on an error in the fifth and moved into scoring position. JULIANA CASILLAS pinch hit and belted a 2-0 pitch into right field, tripling and scoring Mullen. Montclair couldn't do anything else as two foul outs ended the fifth.
  • Scoreless through four in game two, the Lions scored twice in the fourth and fifth to open a 4-0 margin. TCNJ capped off their scoring with an additional back-to-back doubles in the seventh.
  • Montclair, who was hitless through six innings, had singles from KAYLA COSENTINO and Collier to put runners on the corners with one out. TCNJ got consecutive strikeouts to close out the nightcap.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Seretis tossed four scoreless frames of relief in the opener, striking out three while allowing one hit and one hit batter.
