Seretis Powers Softball In Game One Win Over NJCU

Jersey City, NJ – The Montclair State University softball split a doubleheader with New Jersey City in New Jersey Athletic Conference on Tuesday.

The Red Hawks (13-16, 3-8 NJAC) won 10-2 in the opening game before falling 4-3 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Gothic Knights took a 1-0 lead after one and held that score until the top of the third. KAYLA COSENTINO reached on a fielder's choice with two outs and moved to second on a bunt by Riliegh Glynn. A walk to KATIE BRUNNER loaded the bases, and STEPHANIE SERETIS dropped a single into left field, scoring two.
  • Montclair exploded for five runs in the fourth inning. After loading the bases without a hit, KELSEY MCFADDEN was hit by a pitch to bring home one run. Cosentino drove another run in with a groundout before Glynn loaded the bases on a fielder's choice.
  • Seretis once again delivered a big hit, singling through the left side and plating MADISON LEECH and Mullen. JULIANA CASILLAS capped off the stanza off with an RBI single up the middle that sent Glynn home.
  • Montclair added an additional run in the fifth on an error before NJCU cut into the score with a tally in the sixth. The Red Hawks concluded the scoring in the seventh, as Casillas recorded an RBI double and pinch runner ALYSSA SANTIAGO hurrying home on a wild pitch.
  • Scoreless through 3 ½ innings of game two, the Gothic Knights erupted for three runs in the fourth. Two runs came around on a double before a groundout to second base closed out the fourth inning for NJCU.
  • Montclair chipped away, getting one back in the fifth. Mullen reached on a two-out single and was brought home on a double to left-center by MOLLY COLLIGAN. The guests tied the things in the sixth, putting runners on the corners as Cosentino singled and Glynn reached on an error. Seretis had a sacrifice fly, and KATIE BRUNNER knotted the game at three on a single to left.
  • The Gothic Knights drove the winning run home in the bottom of the seventh, as a bunt single with two outs scored the winning run from third base.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Seretis went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the opener. The four RBI set a season-high, surpassing her previous best of three which was hit three times prior.
  • Casillas and MARIAH CARRASCO had two hits each, with Casillas driving home a pair.
  • ALI CAVALLARO notched a win in the circle, allowing no earned runs and five strikeouts.
  • Colligan was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double in the second game.
  • Montclair tallied three stolen bases in game two, as Glynn, Brunner, and Leech swiped bags.
