Softball Drops Two At Kean

Union, NJ – The Montclair State University softball team was swept by Kean University 2-1 and 9-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars got on the board with two in the bottom of the first. The first tally came home on a throwing error as the second run crossed home on a single to left. With two outs in the third, KATIE BRUNNER sent a 1-1 pitch over the center field wall to get the deficit to one.
  • ALI CAVALLARO retired seven straight Cougars to keep the game at one run before escaping a second and third two-out jam in the fifth.
  • Riliegh Glynn led off the sixth with a double to left and KATIE BRUNNER lined a single off the wall in right. Glynn overran third and was tagged out as Brunner was thrown out going for second for an 8-3-5-4 double-play. The Red Hawks could not get any closer and Kean notched the 2-1 win.
  • The Cougars scored seven times over the first two innings to open a 7-0 advantage. Glynn notched an RBI single up the middle that scored LIZ MULLEN for make it 7-1 after three.
  • Kean added to the margin in the fourth, putting two runs across. Montclair had two runners on in the fifth as FAITH COLLIER reached on an error and Glynn singled, but a strikeout closed out the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brunner went 2-for-3 in game one, with Glynn also posting two hits.
  • Cavallaro went the distance, striking out four in six innings.
  • Glynn was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in game two, as Mullen and JULIANA CASILLAS notched hits.
  • KAYLA COSENTINO registered the lone extra-base hit of the nightcap, a double in the first.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks close out non-conference play tomorrow as they host Stevens at 1 pm at the MSU Softball Stadium.
