Softball Takes Down William Paterson On Senior Day

Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State University softball team knocked off William Paterson in both ends of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Red Hawks (17-19, 5-11 NJAC) won 4-2 and 8-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks opened the scoring in the first inning, pushing an unearned run across. KAYLA COSENTINO reached on an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. After a groundout moved the senior to third, KATIE BRUNNER popped up to second, but Cosentino beat the throw home for the game's first run.
  • Montclair added three additional unearned runs in the third to extend their lead to four. MADISON LEECH led off with a single and moved to second on an error. A walk to RILEIGH GLYNN loaded the bases before STEPHANIE SERETIS lined a single off the third baseman's glove for a run. JULIANA CASILLAS had a sacrifice fly, and MARIAH CARRASCO brought home a run due to an error by the centerfielder.
  • The Pioneers notched single runs in the fifth and sixth but could not get any closer. ALI CAVALLARO got a strikeout to end the sixth with the tying run at the plate before sitting the Pioneers down in order in the seventh.
  • The hosts opened game two with four runs in the top of the first. Glynn legged out an infield single and stole second. Brunner brought her in to the score with a single, while Seretis and Casillas rapped consecutive RBI doubles. MOLLY COLLIGAN closed out the scoring with a run-scoring groundout.
  • The lead grew in the second, as LIZ MULLEN started the frame with a single. After swiping two bags, Glynn singled her in with a knock to the pitcher. Mullen set the table in the fourth, leading off with a single and stealing second. Glynn blooped a double to left that scored Mullen before Glynn raced home on a sac fly from Seretis.
  • The Pioneers tacked on runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, but Montclair added one additional tally in the sixth. Brunner tripled to right with two outs and BROOKE BIAMONTE lined a single up the middle to close out the scoring.
