HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (24-8, 6-5 NJAC) got a strong start to the afternoon from PATRICK CUCCURULLO, who retired the side in the top of the first, striking out the final two batters. NJCU took the lead the following frame, as a groundout plated the first run of the contest. A passed ball during the next at-bat brought in the second tally of the stanza.
  • MAX MCLOUGHLIN led off the bottom of the third with a single to left field, and later advanced to second on a hit from MILES FEASTER. SAM ANGELO doubled to left center to drive in both and level the game at two.
  • The Gothic Knights put a runner in scoring position to lead off the sixth with a double to right field, and later brought in the run on a single to center field. After a double steal later in the inning, a single to left center plated two more runs to increase the margin to three.
  • Montclair threatened in the seventh, as MARCUS JOHNSON tripled to left center to score Feaster. NJCU intentionally walked Angelo, and MATT SHUHET drew a walk during the next at-bat to load the bases with two outs. The Gothic Knights escaped the rally with a flyout to end the inning.
