Softball Sweeps Stevens In Non-Conference Finale

Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State University softball team swept a doubleheader with Stevens to wrap up non-conference play on Sunday.

The Red Hawks won by identical 10-2 scores in each game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks put two across in their first at-bat. KAYLA COSENTINO led off with a single and moved up on bunt. A hit by pitch and a fielder's choice loaded the bases with two outs, and JULIANA CASILLAS delivered a two-run knock to right field.
  • The lead doubled in the third as Montclair tacked on two. RILEIGH GLYNN led off with a single and moved to third on a single by STEPHANIE SERETIS. FAITH COLLIER brought a run home with a groundout, and Casillas doubled Seretis in with a hit to left-center.
  • Montclair erupted for six tallies in the fourth. Cosentino laced a one-out double to left before Glynn and KATIE BRUNNER walked to load the bases. Seretis smacked a two-run single to left, and Collier dropped a single to right.
  • The rally continued as LIZ MULLEN walked to load the bases back up. MOLLY COLLIGAN cleared the bags, driving a bases-clearing double down the left-field line. The Ducks answered with two in the fifth, but a pop-up to second ended the contest.
  • Like the opener, Montclair got two runs in the top of the first. Cosentino led off with a double before Glynn and Brunner singled. Seretis singled through the left side, plating two. In the second, Stevens cut the score in half, scoring an unearned tally.
  • After the Ducks added a run in the fourth, Montclair again put up a six spot in the home half. Collier reached on an error, and after Casillas singled to center, pinch runner ALYSSA SANTIAGO crossed the plate on catcher's interference.
  • Casillas scored from second on a bunt by Colligan that was dropped at first base before Cosentino lined a two-out double to right center. Brunner capped the inning off with a double to right center, scoring Glynn, who reached on a throwing miscue.
  • Montclair closed out the game in the fifth, as Colligan doubled and CHLOE SAPERSTEIN walked to lead off the frame. Mullen bunted the runners over, and Cosentino ended the contest with a two-run single down the left-field line.
