Baseball Clipped by Rutgers-Camden

Montclair, NJ The #20 Montclair State University baseball team fell to Rutgers-Camden 8-5 on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (26-11, 8-8 NJAC) started the contest strong, putting runners on first and second for JOE GISONDA, who singled to center field to drive in RYAN MCKENNA from second to open the scoring. Montclair threatened again in the third with runners on the corners, but the Scarlet Raptors escaped the jam with the final out of the frame.
  • Rutgers-Camden put the first two batters on base to begin their half of the third, and singled home the tying run during the next at-bat. Later in the inning with runners on second and third, the home side used three-consecutive singles to build a 4-1 advantage.
  • After adding another run in the sixth on a balk, the Scarlet Raptors added to their lead in the seventh with four hits, including three RBI doubles to make the margin seven with two innings remaining.
  • Montclair pushed in the ninth, putting the first three runners on base with a single from MAX MCLOUGHLIN, an error that allowed ZACH STEARNS to reach safely, and a walk from JARED LEVIS. DANNY CORCORAN doubled to right field during the next at-bat and advanced to third on a throwing error, clearing the bases to cut the margin to four. MATT SHUHET used a sacrifice fly to bring home Corcoran to make the final score 8-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • McKenna and MICHAEL MURPHY each finished with two hits on the day to lead the Red Hawks.
  • Corcoran's double marked the first hit of his collegiate career and also marked his first two runs batted in.
