Men's Lacrosse Falls to Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, VA The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Mary Washington 11-8 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-6, 0-2 CLC) struck for the first goal of the contest following a shot clock violation by the Eagles, as JACK CLEARY found the back of the net off a feed from BRANDON LEWANDOWSKI. Mary Washington leveled the contest during the next possession and took the lead off the resulting faceoff.
  • The Eagles added another at the 8:44 mark of the first, but Montcair used goals from JOHN CRANK and RYAN VIERBUCHEN to tie the contest with five seconds remaining in the opening stanza.
  • Mary Washington struck on their opening possession of the second quarter, but the Red Hawks leveled a few minutes later on another marker from Vierbuchen. After forcing a turnover with 9:28 in the half, the Eagles scored to reclaim the advantage. Vierbuchen registered a man-up goal with two minutes left, but the home side scored again to go into the break up by a goal.
  • The Eagles scored the first four goals of the third frame to open a 10-5 advantage over the Red Hawks, but Vierbuchen struck in the waning moments of the quarter to cut the margin to four.
  • Montclair mounted a rally in the fourth, as Crank scored off an assist from CHRISTIAN SHOTWELL three minutes in. They cut the deficit to two with four minutes remaining as CARTER FINNEN converted following an assist from Vierbuchen. The home side scored once more to make the final margin three.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Vierbuchen finished with a game-high four goals to go along with two assists. It marked the fifth time of his career in which he recorded four or more goals.
  • Crank tallied his seventh multi-goal contest of the season.
  • BRANDON SHEVINS recorded 14 saves in net for the Red Hawks.
