Ramapo Takes Two From Softball

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State University softball was topped by No. 20 Ramapo College in both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

The Red Hawks (12-14, 2-6 NJAC) fell 9-5 in the opener before dropping a 5-1 decision in six innings in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair wasted no time, putting up three runs in the first in game one. RILEIGH GLYNN led off with a single and stole second before KAYLA COSENTINO walked. Two batters later, STEPHANIE SERETIS belted a three-run homer to give Montclair a 3-0 lead.
  • The Roadrunners scored in each of the first five innings, taking a 9-3 lead into the seventh. The Red Hawks had multiple runners in the third and fifth stanzas but could not push any runners across the plate.
  • The guests made it interesting in the seventh, digging into the lead. Cosentino led off with a single, but the next two hitters retired. FAITH COLLIER was hit by a pitch, and JULIANA CASILLAS singled to load the bases.
  • MOLLY COLLIGAN singled up the middle, scoring two, making it 9-5. A walk to CHEYANNE WEIGAND loaded the bases, but a groundout to shortstop ended the game in favor of Ramapo.
  • Montclair opened the scoring in the third inning of game two, snapping a 0-0 tie. LIZ MULLEN led off with a single and moved to third on a sac bunt and wild pitch. Glynn stepped up with two down and slapped a single to left, plating Mullen.
  • Ramapo took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, scoring twice. The hosts added the final three tallies in the fourth, but Weigand came in and struck out three straight to escape further damage.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Seretis went 3-for-4 with three RBI, matching her season high. Her home run was the second of her career, with the first coming on April 30, 2022, against Stockton.
  • Colligan tallied two RBIs, her first multi-RBI game of the season.
  • KATIE BRUNNER recorded a double in game two, the lone extra-base knock.
  • Weigand struck out three hitters over two innings of game two without surrendering a run.
