Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Vassar

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Vassar on Saturday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-2-3) opened the game on the front foot and broke the scoring open in the seventh minute. After an initial cross from EMMI DENOVELLIS on the far side of the field was blocked, the defender recollected the ball and chipped it into the box. AILEEN CAHILL made a run towards the pass and flicked it with a header into the far corner of the net.
  • Vassar responded with a trio of shots on goal over the next 15 minutes that were both gathered by SALANGE BELL. Montclair outshot the Brewers 4-0 over the final 15 minutes of the opening stanza, including shots on frame from SHANNON MULLINS and DANIELLE MULLINS.
  • The Brewers leveled the contest four minutes into the second half, as they converted a penalty kick following a foul in the box. Montclair looked for the go-ahead goal, as KYLIE PRENDERGAST and SAMIRA LUKOVIC registered shots over a five minute span.
  • Bell collected another save in the 67th minute on a shot towards the bottom center of goal to keep the match tied at one. The Red Hawks made one final push with a shot in the waning moments, but the two sides finished level.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Cahill's goal was her second of the season and the 39th of her collegiate career. She has recorded a goal contribution in four of Montclair's six games this season.
  • DeNovellis notched the 12th assist of her tenure with the Red Hawks.
  • Bell collected four assists in net for Montclair, marking the fourth time in six games that she has recorded four or more saves.
