Women’s Soccer Showcases Offensive Barrage in 8-1 Win Against Cairn

Montclair, NJ. – The Montclair State women's soccer team showcased an offensive barrage tonight where eight different Red Hawks found the back of the net as they upended Cairn, 8-1 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The scoring started in the seventh minute of the game when TARA LAMBERT connected on a pass to MACKENZIE ALBERT, who tapped a right-footer into the lower left portion of the net for the eventual game-winner early. Five minutes later, Montclair extended the lead to 2-0 when Albert delivered a nice pass to EMMI DENOVELLIS who fired in a shot into the right side of the net at the 13:21 timestamp. The Red Hawks defense earned a clean sheet in the first half, allowing zero shots and took the 2-0 lead into the second half.
  • It was early in the second half when the flood gates opened for the Montclair State offense. DANIELLE MULLINS played a ball of the defender for an unassisted goal at the 49:33 mark and was followed by MADELINE LESICA, who fired a ball into the top center of the net from about 25-yards out just two minutes later in the 51st minute. Montclair continued to pour it on with a goal from AILEEN CAHILL in the 53rd minute and then Lesica found EMILY SCHULER in the 55th minute to give Montclair State University a commanding 6-0 advantage.
  • 20 minutes passed before the next goal and it was once again the Red Hawks with another offensive display, this time from HAILEY THALER, who took advantage of a nice crosser from GIANNA CURCI from the left side of the penalty box at the 72:07 timestamp.
  • Cairn halted the shut out in the 75th minute when Macie Starr took advantage of a free kick opportunity from just outside of the penalty box and was able to perfectly place a ball over the outstretched arms of MADDIE SCHILL, for a 7-1 score.
  • NIKI DANZ was awarded a penalty shot opportunity just before the 79th minute and took advantage of it for the final goal of the game where Montclair walked away with an 8-1 victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The Red Hawks dominated on offense with 36 shots to the Highlander's four. The mark is the fourth highest total in program history, that was tied with last year's mark against Stockton on October 23.
  • Their eight goals were also tied for the fifth-highest mark in program and the most since 2019.
  • Montclair saw six student-athletes notch their first goals of the season, including Mullins and Thaler who scored their first collegiate goals.
