Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ellisy Scores in 86th Minute as Men's Soccer Defeats Vassar, 1-0

Poughkeepsie, NY SALEM ELLISY scored in the 86th minute to vault the Montclair State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Vassar on Saturday for its fourth consecutive victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-2-1) began the game on the front foot as Ellisy and SAMUEL EPITIME recorded shots on goal in the opening seven minutes. They continued their push, as OWEN MURPHY ripped a shot towards the top right corner of the net that had to be saved by Vassar in the 24th minute.
  • The defensive battle continued, as neither side could find the back of the net the remainder of the half. Montclair outshot the Brewers 7-3 during the opening stanza.
  • Vassar notched its first shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but ALEXANDER VELASQUEZ came up with a save on the attempt towards the bottom right of goal. Murphy responded with an attempt the next minute, but the teams remained level.
  • The Brewers narrowly missed the opener in the 79th minute, as a shot from the near side of the field just grazed by the far post. Montclair broke the scoring open in the 86th minute, as ALFREDO ROJAS played a ball into the box that found Ellisy, who tucked a shot into the left post.
  • The Montclair stood tall defensively down the stretch, as they did not allow another shot on goal to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Ellisy tallied his second collegiate goal, with Rojas notching his second assist of the campaign and the fourth during his Montclair career.
  • Velasquez tallied a save in his fourth-straight shutout in net for the Red Hawks. He is the first goalkeeper to record four consecutive shutouts since SHANE KEENAN in 2022.
  • Montclair has not allowed a goal in 414 minutes of play dating back to September 6, their longest streak since the 2021 campaign where they did not allow a goal for 898 minutes spanning 10 matches.
FROM THE FIELD

"We took a huge step in the right direction today. Vassar is a very good team that will make a deep run in the conference and will be looking to get an NCAA bid. We found a late goal and that is a credit to the guys for continuing to fight and never thinking the game is over." - Head Coach Todd Tumelty

UP NEXT
