Women's Soccer Draws New Paltz on 85th Minute Equalizer

New Paltz, NY The Montclair State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-0-2) began the game strong with the first five shots of the afternoon in the opening 15 minutes. The Hawks countered with their first shot of the game, a bottom center ball that was saved by SALANGE BELL.
  • Montclair pushed again offensively with shots on goal from AILEEN CAHILL and SHANNON MULLINS, but the contest remained level after 30 minutes. Both sides tightened up defensively, as they combined for one shot over the remainder of the opening stanza.
  • New Paltz took the lead in the 51st minute on a goal generated from the left sideline that was centered on a rolling ball into the top edge of the box that was put in on a one-touch finish.
  • The Red Hawks pushed in the final 10 minutes to equalize, as TARA LAMBERT sent a shot towards the top left corner of the net that was saved by New Paltz. They found their goal in the 85th minute to level it, as Cahill made a run down the near side edge of the box and sent in a cross to MACKENZIE ALBERT, who immediately flicked the ball past the keeper.
INSIDE THE RESULTS

FROM THE FIELD

"Great performance by our group. The stats show that we could've gotten a win but unfortunately a few key moments went the wrong way. I loved the resilience, heart, and character to get the game tied!" - Head Coach Pat Naughter
