Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University field hockey team blanked Husson 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Sprague Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (2-1) played a scoreless opening stanza with the Eagles, but tallied two shots on target in the final four minutes. Montclair had a chance within the opening moment of the second quarter to take the lead, as SADIE EICHLIN sent a high shot over the Husson goaltender that had to be parried away for a defensive save.
  • Seven minutes later, Montclair broke through as EMMA BIANCO slotted a penalty stroke attempt into the left side of the net. Less than two minutes later, the Red Hawks doubled their advantage, as GAB MAISTO slid a pass towards SADIE EICHLIN, who was waiting just inside the shooting circle on the near side. Eichlin slotted the ball through traffic towards the far post, where TORI SUTERA flicked an attempt in.
  • Husson opened the second half with a shot on frame that was parried away by SYDNEY WHITE. After another attempt from the Eagles that went wide, the Red Hawks recorded the next seven shots. Husson kept the margin at two entering the final 15 minutes.
  • Montclair added a third goal halfway through the final period, as ALEXA ANTONELLI played the ball across to KELLY WESTERVELT, who sent a shot past the Husson goalkeeper. The home side did not allow a shot over the remainder of the contest to seal the victory.
