#12 Men's Soccer Cruises Past Chapman 3-0

Montclair, NJ The #12 Montclair State University men's soccer team shutout Chapman 3-0 for its first win of the 2024 season on Sunday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-2-1) broke the scoring open in the 19th minute. SALEM ELLISY settled a ball for OSBIN MENDEZ, who served a pass from across midfield to ANDRE SHELTON. The striker collected the ball off his chest, surged past a defender, and slotted a shot into the back of the net.
  • Four minutes later, SAMUEL EPITIME took a pass from Mendez on the far sideline and beat a defender one-on-one, moved into the box, and ripped a shot towards the far post. Chapman couldn't find an answer offensively as the Red Hawks held the Panthers to one shot in the first half.
  • Montclair added a third in the 60th minute, as OWEN MURPHY slotted in a ball off a corner kick to Mendez, who served in a cross to IAN CHESNEY. The defender collected the ball and ripped a low shot into the far corner of the net. The Panthers could only record one shot on goal the rest of the way, sealing the victory for the Red Hawks.
INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • Epitome's goal was his second of the season and first from the run of play. Shelton notched his first marker of the campaign.
  • Mendez tallied his 11th, 12th, and 13th assists of his Montclair career after leading the Red Hawks in that category during the 2023 season. It marked his first multi-assist game of his career at Montclair.
