#20 Men's Soccer Draws Rowan, 2-2

Glassboro, NJ The #20 Montclair State University men's soccer team played Rowan to a 2-2 draw on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (11-1-3, 4-1-1 NJAC) were tested early defensively, as Rowan opened the night with the game's first four shots, including three on goal that had to be collected by PIERRE SOUMEILLANT. Montclair broke through shortly after, as DANNY TOBON sent a shot off the woodwork, recollected, and played a ball to KENET LOPEZ, who sent a shot past the keeper.
  • Rowan equalized nine minutes later, but the visitors looked to regain the advantage a few minutes later on a shot from SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI that went out top right. Soumeillant notched another save in the 33rd minute to maintain the score, and KYLE MOORE ripped an attempt on goal in the final two minutes of the period that had to be stopped by the Profs.
  • Early in the second stanza, a foul in the box by Rowan led to a penalty kick opportunity for Montclair. Lapczynski stepped up and slotted in a low shot to push the Red Hawks back in front in the 51st minute. Soumeillant was tested immediately after, coming up with another crucial stop.
  • The Profs leveled the game once again in the 65th minute, as Montclair recorded the next three shots, including a pair on goal that were stopped by Rowan. In the 75th minute, Soumeillant parried a ball over the net on a shot towards the top right corner of the frame. Both sides had one shot on goal each over the final 15 minutes, as they ended the night level.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The goal for Lopez was his third of the season and second over his last three appearances. Tobon has recorded an assist in back-to-back games and now has four on the year, which is tied for second on the team.
  • Lapczynski remained perfect from the penalty spot, improving to a perfect three-for-three. His trio of goals this season leads all Montclair defenders and are the most by a defender since Enir Radoncic in 2023.
  • Soumeillant finished the night with a career-high seven saves in goal for the Red Hawks.
