Women's Soccer Battles TCNJ to 2-2 Draw

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University women's soccer team battled The College of New Jersey to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (6-0-4, 2-0-1 NJAC) saw an early save from SALANGE BELL before they broke the scoring open in the 13th minute. On a corner kick from the far side of the field, CARLY GUZZARDO looped in an in-swinging service that was immediately headed into the back of the net at the far post by KYLIE PRENDERGAST. Bell recorded another save at the bottom right corner of the net three minutes later to preserve the lead.
  • Montclair doubled their advantage with four minutes to go before the break, as MADELINE LESICA collected the ball on the far touchline following a corner kick and sent in a pass that found its way to the back post, where SHANNON MULLINS headed it past the keeper. TCNJ tallied a pair of shots in the waning moments of the period, but Bell tallied a stop to push the Red Hawks into the half with the advantage.
  • Coming out of half, the Red Hawks continued to push offensively, recording four shots in the first 10 minutes. TCNJ cut the deficit in half in the 71st minute on a scramble in front of the net following a corner kick from the far side of the field. A few minutes later, the Lions notched a save on a penalty kick attempt from the Red Hawks to keep the game at 2-1. 
  • Bell tallied a point blank save on a shot attempt right in front of goal in the 85th minute as TCNJ searched for the equalizer. Shortly after, the Lions leveled the game after taking advantage of a turnover and one-on-one opportunity. There was only one shot between the two sides in the final three minutes, as the contest ended in a draw.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The goal for Prendergast was her third of the season, with Guzzardo notching her second career assist on the strike.
  • Mullins recorded her fourth goal of the season, her third over Montclair's last two contests. Lesica's assist was her second of the campaign and fifth of her collegiate career.
  • Bell tallied a season-high six saves in net for the Red Hawks.
  • Montclair is unbeaten over its first 10 games for the first time since the 2022 season and fourth time since 2012.
