Peralta Leads Way for Women’s Swimming & Diving on Day Two of NJAC Championships

Hampden, Virginia – Junior ROURKE PERALTA led the Montclair State Women's Swimming and Diving team on day two of the NJAC Championships on Friday, contributing to three broken school records and achieving an NCAA "B" cut qualifying time.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 200 free relay, Peralta kicked off with a school record-breaking 50 free time of 23.23, surpassing her own mark of 23.63 from last year's NJAC Championships and securing an NCAA "B" cut. Alongside SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, SARAH FONDACARO, and ABBY BROCK, the relay team secured a third-place finish with a school-record time of 1:35.67, marking Montclair's first podium finish of the championships. The previous 200 free relay record, set in 2018 at the Metropolitan Championships by Madison Franke, Christina Cusmano, Catherine Cooper, and Genna Brewer, had been the second longest-standing swim record on the board.
  • Peralta returned for the championship final of the 50 free, where she broke her own record again, placing second with a time of 23.18—another NCAA "B" cut performance. Brock, Shopovick, and Fondacaro also competed in the "B" final of the event, with Brock finishing 10th (24.74), Shopovick 12th (24.75), and Fondacaro 13th (24.81). In the "C" final, Julianna Skopp-Cardillo placed 18th (24.86), and MADDY WISHNOW finished 23rd (25.30).
  • Marianne Tassanari set a new 200 IM school record with a time of 2:08.27, breaking the previous mark of 2:08.46 set by Claire Luigard. Tassanari finished fourth overall in the event. In the "B" final, CATTY GEYER placed 11th (2:11.69), while Lilli Shay finished 13th (2:12.47).
  • In the 500 free, JULIE TIEDEMANN qualified for the championship final, securing fifth place with a time of 5:10.45, while DEVYN FORD competed in the "C" final, finishing 24th (5:20.60).
  • The night concluded with the 400 medley relay, featuring Shopovick, Brock, MADELINE ROGERS, and Peralta. The team shattered another school record, finishing fifth with a time of 3:52.25. This performance broke Montclair's longest-standing swim record, previously set in 2018 at the Metropolitan Championship by Erin Cannon, Claire Luigard, Margaux Winchock, and Madison Franke.
  • Montclair currently sits in third place overall, with a total of 319 points.
FROM THE POOL
  • Head Coach Brian McLaughlin: "The highlight of the night was obviously Rourke getting an NCAA 'B' cut. It should rank fairly high nationally. It is always awesome when you get swims that you deserve, and she is incredibly deserving."
UP NEXT
  • Day three of the NJAC Championships will follow the same schedule as day two, with the trial meet beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
