Montclair, NJ – Montclair State University women's basketball standout
ALYSSA CRAIGWELL and head coach Karin Harvey earned major accolades in the D3hoops.com All-Region announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
Representing Region 4, Craigwell was named Rookie of the Year and selected to the Second Team, while Harvey was honored as Region 4 Coach of the Year.
Craigwell adds this recognition to her NJAC Rookie of the Year and All-NJAC First Team honors, which she earned in February. She had a stellar freshman season for the Red Hawks, averaging 15.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The seven-time NJAC Rookie of the Week also led the team with 60 steals and 36 blocks. Her contributions were instrumental in the team's NJAC Championship run and the NCAA Tournament first-round victory, where she scored 27 points in a 67-64 upset over #3/#9 Christopher Newport.
Harvey earned Coach of the Year after leading Montclair to its best turnaround season in program history. Last season, Montclair finished 9-16 overall and 6-12 in the NJAC, missing the conference tournament. Projected to finish seventh this season and considered a "dark horse", Montclair State defied expectations, finishing 24-5 overall and 15-3 in the NJAC, securing Harvey's seventh NJAC Championship. She also guided the team to its first NCAA Playoff win since the 2017-18 season with their victory over Christopher Newport. Harvey and her staff were also named NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
Craigwell became the first D3hoops.com honoree for Montclair State women's basketball since 2020, when Nickie Carter was named Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-Region. Harvey earned her third career Coach of the Year recognition from the organization and her first since 2014.
Montclair State concluded its season 24-5, capturing its eighth NJAC Championship in program history.
