Baseball Defeated by Greensboro, 7-3

High Point, NC – The Montclair State baseball team (7-4) suffered a 7-3 defeat at the hands of Greensboro (8-6)  in the final day of their competition in the Triad Invite on Sunday.

How It Happened
  • Greensboro got on the board first in the opening frame. The lead off batter was hit and made it to third on a ground out advance and a wild pitch. He was plated by another ground out for the opening run.
  • Montclair retaliated with a pair of runs in the top of the third. MICHAEL MURPHY and CHASE FISCHER each led off with outfield singles. CHRIS GONZALO used a sacrifice bunt to move Fischer to second and Murphy to third and Murphy was sent home on a sacrifice fly to right field by JARED LEVIS. A ZACH STEARNS RBI single down the right field line plated Fischer and gave Montclair a 2-1 lead.
  • A double down the right field line and a walk put runners on first and second for the Pride in the bottom of the fifth where they were able to get a run across on an RBI single to left field to tie the score at 2-2.
  • After they retired the side in the top of the sixth, they pushed two runs across home plate in the bottom of the frame on an RBI ground out to second base and an RBI single to center field to retake the lead 4-2. They eventually extended their lead to 7-2 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
  • In the top of the ninth, Montclair was able to get a run across when MATTHEW RINALDI made his way around the bases on a hit by pitch, a wild pitch, a Murphy single to the pitcher and a BILLY TIGAR RBI single to the shortstop. The Red Hawks, however, only saw that lone run in the final inning and fell, 7-3
