Montclair, NJ – Montclair State University women's lacrosse sophomore
KAELEY SEK posted a season-high five goals to help propel the Red Hawks (8-5, 2-1 CLC) over Stockton (10-4, 1-2 CLC), 12-7 on Saturday.
How It Happened
- Under a minute into the game, Sek put Montclair on the board off a pass from Joelle D'Angleo. Stockon answered at 11:23 to tie the game, 1-1. D'Angelo fired in her own goal at the 10:17 mark and was followed by two more goals from Sek to push the Red Hawks out in front, 4-1, with 8:50 remaining. Stockton scored two goals down the stretch to Montclair's one, and the Red Hawks took a 5-2 lead into the second quarter. CHELSEA STACK scored at 3:57 off a free position.
- Defense was the name of the game in the second quarter. The lone goal of the period came off the stick of AMRA LUKOVIC, who fired in a goal at 7:49. The Red Hawks held the Ospreys to three shots in the quarter. One came with five seconds left to go in the half and it was stuffed by JOEY GROTKOPF, and Montclair held a 6-3 advantage into the halftime intermission.
- Stockton came out of the break swinging with a pair of goals in just over the first three minutes of the quarter to cut the lead to 6-5. A goal from CARA MCCARTNEY sparked four unanswered goals to extend Montclair's lead out to a 10-5 edge. McCartney scored two, and Sek added another pair of goals to her total. The Ospreys placed a ball in the back of the net with 25 seconds left to put the score at 10-5 heading into the final quarter of play.
- The Red Hawks defense did its job in the fourth frame. The Ospreys found only one goal down the stretch that came at 6:18, taking advantage of a woman-up situation. At 2:51, with a woman down, Stack found LEXI ROBINSON for a goal and with just 34 seconds left, D'Angelo put a stamp on the game with a goal to seal a 12-7 win for Montclair.
