Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Kean in Regular-Season Finale, 20-4

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University women's lacrosse team (9-6, 3-2 NJAC) had a red-hot offensive showing in its regular-season finale as they cruised past Kean, 20-4, on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • Montclair pushed out in front in the first five minutes with three goals. CHELSEA STACK assisted all three goals, with one going to AMRA LUKOVIC and two to KAELEY SEK. The Red Hawks continued to dominate on the offensive end from 8:06 to 2:34 with four more goals to up the score to 7-0. Sek notched a first-quarter hat trick while CARA MCCARTNEY, NORAH MONAGHAN, and LEXI ROBINSON each scored their first goals of the game. As the clock expired on the opening frame, Sek scored her fourth goal of the quarter, this time off a pass from Lukovic, to put the score at 8-0, after one.
  • Sek continued her offensive showcase with two more goals at 11:28 and 8:45, both off passes from Stack to push Montclair up 10-0. Robinson scored again at the 6:17 timestamp before Kean was finally able to fire back with goals at 3:37 and 1:44 to cut the score down to 11-2. A late card for the Cougars gave the Red Hawks a final shot at getting back up to a double-digit lead, and they capitalized with a woman-up goal from Robinson, and Montclair took a 12-2 lead into the second half.
  • The Red Hawks came out of the break with a continued offensive masterclass with Robinson's hat-trick goal in just over the first minute of the second half. Montclair went on another scoring spree with three more goals between 9:49 and 6:08 that pushed the score out to 16-2. Sek, Robinson, and ASHLEY PETROSINE each notched goals in that frame. Petrosine found CARA MCCARTNEY to wrap up scoring in the third quarter with a goal at the 1:27 mark to take a 17-2 lead into the final frame.
  • The Cougars opened the fourth quarter with two goals at the 13:37 and 9:51 timestamps to cut the lead to 17-4. Montclair found three more goals down the stretch. MIA CUCCINELLO scored off a pass from MEGHAN VITALE with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. McCartney scored a woman-up goal at 2:16, and Cuccinello found Stack with just eight seconds remaining to wrap up a dominant 20-4 triumph

Inside the Numbers

  • Sek posted a season-high seven goals in the win. It tied a career-high that she notched last season on April 4 against Eastern Connecticut State.
  • Robinson posted a season-high five goals today, while McCartney notched a hat trick in the game.
  • JOEY GROTKOPF picked up her ninth win of the season in goal. She went the distance and made nine saves with only four goals allowed.
