Men's Soccer Battles Sewanee to Scoreless Draw to Open Campaign

Sewanee, TN The Montclair State University men's soccer team played Sewanee to a scoreless draw in the 2025 season opener on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (0-0-1) opened the contest on the front foot, as JAKE WINCHOCK ripped a shot on goal in the second minute that had to be collected by the Sewanee keeper. The Tigers responded with their opening opportunity in the 10th minute as a shot rang off the woodwork. Five minutes later, LOGAN NENO sent a shot towards the top of the net that was stopped by Sewanee.
  • Montclair rattled off a pair of shots and held the Tigers without another attempt until the 37th minute, when DIESEL FIORE notched his first save of the contest on a shot that sailed towards the crossbar. The two sides traded shots down the stretch, but couldn't find the back of the net as they went into the break scoreless.
  • Neither side registered a shot in the second half until the 60th minute, where Sewanee notched two in a three minute span. MAX PERRY and JAYDEN WESLEY countered with attempts over the next eight minutes, but the host defense stood tall each time. The pair each had another chance shortly after, as both put a shot on goal that had to be saved.
  • The Tigers tallied the final five shots of the game over the remaining 12 minutes, as Montclair prevented a shot on goal and maintained the clean sheet.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Montclair held Sewanee to just one shot on goal, outshooting the Tigers 4-1 in that category.
  • Fiore notched a save and the shutout in his debut for the Red Hawks. Winchock, Perry, and Wesley led the way for Montclair offensively with two shots each.
