Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Albert Notches Equalizer in 82nd Minute as Women's Soccer Draws Johnson & Wales, 1-1

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University women's soccer team notched an equalizer in the final 10 minutes to draw Johnson & Wales 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-0-1) received a crucial defensive play from ARIA HICKS in the 10th minute, as the visiting Wildcats generated a point blank scoring opportunity in the box following a crossing ball from the far side of the field. Hicks cut across the end line and notched a goal line clearance to prevent an early marker for Johnson & Wales.
  • Neither side could generate a shot on goal until the 30th minute, as the Wildcats scored after intercepting a pass in the attacking third. Montclair notched a shot in the waning moments of the half to try and equalize, but MACKENZIE ALBERT's attempt went just high.
  • Montclair came out in the second half on the front foot, as Albert recorded another attempt in the 65th minute before ISABELL KRONOW ripped a shot on goal that had to be saved by the Wildcats. Shortly after, SHANNON MULLINS recorded a pair of shots on frame over the span of a minute that had to be collected by the Johnson & Wales keeper.
  • The Red Hawks broke through with eight minutes remaining, as Kronow collected the ball right at the edge of the box on the nearside of the field and slipped in a centering pass. Mullins surged to the ball and flicked it towards the back post, where Albert was there to equalize.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The goal for Albert was her first of the season and eighth of her Montclair career. She has factored in on a goal in each of the first two games of the campaign for the Red Hawks.
  • Kronow notched her second assist of the year on the equalizing goal, bringing her total of goal contributions to a team-high three through two contests.
  • Mullins notched her fifth career assist for the Red Hawks.
  • Montclair held a 11-4 advantage in shots, allowing just one shot on goal during the 90 minutes.
FROM THE FIELD

"I thought we were excellent. We were coming off of short rest early in the year and played a very physical, organized, and well-coached team. For us to overcome a 1-0 deficit to get the result shows a great deal of resolve." - Head Coach Pat Naughter
