Women’s Soccer Plays 1-1 Stalemate with SUNY New Paltz

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair women's soccer team (2-0-2) played under the lights on Thursday night against SUNY New Paltz (1-2-1) and played the Hawks to a 1-1 draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After an early Red Hawk corner and a shot missed out left, the Hawks went on their first push and capitalized with a through ball that was not only saved right near the right post end line, but was tapped right to a New Paltz player, who buried the goal at the 6:04 timestamp to take a 1-0 lead.
  • New Paltz went right back on the attack, but SALANGE BELL stonewalled the next Hawks shot. Montclair then had control for most of the half between the 10th and 28th minutes. They racked up four shots with three on goal, but all three were saved.
  • The equalizer came at the 34:44 mark when ISABELL KRONOW played a ball into the left side of the penalty box and pushed it right to MACKENZIE ALBERT, who nodded the game at 1-1. New Paltz made a final push in the half with two shots, but Bell made a save, and the other missed the mark, and the game went into halftime tied.
  • Montclair controlled most of the second half and had some great opportunities to collect the go-ahead goal. Albert had a crossing shot saved at the 63rd minute, and a shot by MADELINE LESICA just missed the mark as she hit the crossbar.
  • The Red Hawks saw their best opportunity of the night to take the lead when a foul in the penalty box gifted Montclair a penalty shot at the 70:51 timestamp. CARLY GUZZARDO lined up for the kick, but a diving save from New Paltz erased the chance at the lead.
  • Down the stretch, Montclair tallied four shots to New Paltz's two, but neither team was able to take the lead, and the game ended in a draw.
INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • Montclair doubled Paltz in shots, 16-8, with nine shots going on goal to the Hawks' five.
  • Bell recorded four saves in the match.
  • Kronow racked up her eighth point of the season tonight, which is tied for the second-best mark in the NJAC so far this season
