Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Women's Swimming & Diving team (5-2) honored its 10 seniors for Senior Night before earning a 102-81 win against New Paltz (1-5) on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks kicked off the meet, nabbing the two top spots in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of ABBY PANZARELLA, RACHEL YUSHAN, MADELINE ROGERS, and TESSA DEVONE placed first with a time of 4:14.40. They were followed by the mashup of Leticia Laynez, Penny Curran, MADDY WISHNOW, and LILY CONLON, who took second with a team time of 4:18.17.
- Montclair saw the top-three finishes in the 1000 free. KACIE GADZINSKI headed the pack when she clocked 11:91.64. She was followed by AMELIA FANNING (11:23.24) and DEVYN FORD (11:40.81).
- CATTY GEYER earned a first-place finish in the 200 free, finishing with a time of 2:03.16. Devone placed second in the event with a time of 2:07.97.
- ROURKE PERALTA was at the forefront of Montclair, taking the top-three spots in the 50 free. She outraced the competition with a time of 24.48. Wishnow (25.65) notched second, and Rogers nabbed third (26.19).
- The 400 IM was won by Panzarella (4:58.32), with Laynez touching the wall second (5:01.16).
- Rogers won the 200 fly (2:15.08) and was trailed by Geyer (2:19.80), who notched second, and SYDNEY MCGANN (2:31.10), who finished third.
- The 400 free relay wrapped up the meet for Montclair's win. The team of Devone, MARIANNE TASSINARI, Geyer, and Peralta took it home with a first-place finish of 3:43.58.
- Despite it being counted as an exhibition swim, Tassinari had a big swim for Montclair in the 200 breast. Her time of 2:27.75 set a new pool record in the event.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
- Before the meet, the team honored its 10 seniors for their contributions to the program and department, in and out of the pool. Those seniors honored were SADIE CRISPELL, KACIE GADZINSKI, CATTY GEYER, AUDREY HITCHENS, SYDNEY MCGANN, ROURKE PERALTA, MADELINE ROGERS, OLIVIA SALMONS, LILI SHAY, and MARIANNE TASSINARI.
- This is the program's first win against New Paltz.
