Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Edged by #4 Rowan

Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State University Women's Soccer team was edged by #4 Rowan 2-1 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (9-3-1, 3-2-0 NJAC) fell behind in the third minute, as a one-on-one from the near end line led to a Prof maneuvering around a defender to play a ball just inside the edge of the box. Rowan flicked a shot immediately, leading to a save, but the rebound led to a tap-in at the goal line to push the home side in front. Both sides tightened up defensively over the next 15 minutes, with Rowan picking up their second of the evening in the 18th minute on a through ball that led to a shot from 25 yards out.
  • Montclair cut into the deficit six minutes later, as a foul in the box led to a penalty kick that was converted by KAYLEE LAUBER. Three minutes after, MACKENZIE SIBELLO tallied a crucial stop to keep the margin at one, with the keeper being tested again in the 31st minute. Neither side would allow a shot on goal for the remainder of the half, as Rowan would take the slim one-goal advantage into the break.
  • Sibello registered a stop in the sixth minute of the second stanza, with the Profs adding another shot on goal in the 60th minute that had to be parried away by the keeper. Rowan continued to push on the front foot, testing Sibello with another three shots on goal bridging into the final 15 minutes of play. Montclair recorded a trio of attempts across the final 10 minutes, including a shot by KIRA HENDERSON in the 88th minute that was collected by Rowan to seal the contest.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Lauber's goal was her seventh of the season, moving her into sole possession of fifth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. She is a perfect 2-for-2 from the penalty spot.
  • Sibello accumulated a career-best 10 saves in goal for the Red Hawks.
FROM THE FIELD

"I loved how hard we fought back but we were punished for another sloppy start against high-level competition. Unfortunately, I felt we weren't sharp enough on the ball and unable to create enough chances." - Head Coach Pat Naughter
